The Dunwoody Police Department has selected the following National Weather Service weather events for automatic Nixle notification:

- evacuation – immediate
- tornado warning
- hazardous materials warning
NWS Advisories - Recipients are reached by text, email, and mobile app. NWS Advisories are turned off between 12 a.m. and 6 a.m.

- freezing rain advisory
- snow advisory
- winter weather advisory
NWS Watches – Recipients reached by text, email, and mobile app. NWS watches are turned off between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.

- tornado watch
Note that a tornado warning means a tornado is imminent. Tornado warnings are issued by the National Weather Service, usually after a tornado or funnel cloud has been recorded. They can be issued even if a tornado watch was not first in effect.
A tornado watch is issued when weather conditions are favorable for tornadoes to form. The watch indicates that tornadoes are possible, given the current conditions, and that the proper authorities are monitoring the situation.
