The City of Dunwoody will celebrate Georgia Arbor Day (held on the third Friday in February) on Friday, February 15th at the Brook Run Park Baseball Fields (4635 Barclay Drive, Dunwoody, Georgia 30338) at 10:00 a.m. with the ceremonial planting of a tree. Representatives from Dunwoody City Council, Trees Atlanta, Dunwoody Parks & Recreation staff, and members of the City of Dunwoody Sustainability Committee will be present for the planting.
The Georgia Forestry Commission records state that the first Georgia Arbor Day was proclaimed by the Georgia General Assembly in December 1890. National Arbor Day is the third Friday in April, it is too warm to plant trees in Georgia, so it was decided in 1941 to hold Georgia Arbor Day on the third Friday in February. Arbor Day is a day set aside for schools, civic clubs, and other organizations, as well as individuals, to reflect on the importance of trees in our state and across our nation.
