Mount Vernon Path Phase 2
Vermack to Mount Vernon Place
Current activities:
(February 2026) Right-of-way and easement acquisition continues.
(July 2025) Preliminary plans have been completed and right of way plans are being prepared.
(September 2024) Design is resuming with recent approval of contract amendment.
Engineering plans are currently being developed based on the approved concept plan with construction funding currently anticipated in 2028. P2 references the designation of this project in the Dunwoody Trail Master Plan.
Since becoming a city, the City of Dunwoody has paved and completed bicycle and pedestrian improvements on Mount Vernon from the western city limit near Lisa Lane to Corners Drive. The City is currently acquiring right of way for the segments on either side of Mt. Vernon Road. The section of Mount Vernon Road between Vermack Road and Mount Vernon Place is the last remaining segment without sidewalk on both sides of the road and lacks bicycle facilities.
Project Purpose
The goal of this project is to continue with pedestrian, bicycle and turn lane improvements on Mount Vernon Road as recommended in the city’s Transportation Plan, Sidewalk Improvement Program, and Trail Master Plan. Right now, there are no accommodations for bicycles and no sidewalk on the south side of this section of Mount Vernon.
There are currently no left turn lanes for the side streets on this segment despite the number of left turns exceeding 400 vehicles per day at each side street. At Vernon Lake Drive, the number of crashes and injuries is above average for the corridor. The image below is the concept plan.
