Dunwoody CARES Act

The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act was passed by Congress and signed into law on March 27, 2020. It's designed to provide economic assistance for American workers, families, and small businesses, and preserve jobs.

The City of Dunwoody's distribution is based on an agreement with DeKalb County that carves out part of the overall county funding for countywide efforts, but leaves $32.6 million to the cities distributed on a per capita basis. Dunwoody’s allotment would be $5,597,957.

All Numbers Unaudited (From FY 2020 to FY2025 Combined through Dec. 31, 2025)

The program allowed Dunwoody-based small businesses impacted by COVID-19 to request rent, lease or mortgage reimbursement for up to six months (April through September 2020) with a maximum award of $30,000 for each applicant. There were two phases for this program, starting in late December 2020. More than 80 Dunwoody businesses received grants through this program for a total of more than $2 million in rent relief.  This grant program is closed.

Al Fresco Matching Grant Program

On November 9, 2020, the Dunwoody City Council approved $150,000 in CARES Act funding to create an Al Fresco Matching Grant Program for Dunwoody businesses that want to begin or expand outdoor operations. Restaurants and other businesses used the funds to help with the costs of space heaters, tents, exterior lighting or other needs to prepare for winter and address customer demand for outdoor services in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.  The funding match was 50 percent, and the maximum amount of reimbursement per business was $5,000.  This grant program is closed.
