Dunwoody, GA – Feb. 23, 2026 – The Dunwoody Police Department is saddened to announce the passing of Major William “Rusty” Furman after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

Major Furman was one of the original members of the Dunwoody PoliceDepartment. He served at Marietta and Cobb County Police Departments prior to joining the Dunwoody Police Department, where he completed a decorated 28-year career in law enforcement. He was a leader, mentor, confidante and friend to everyone he worked with. Most importantly, he was a husband, father, son and brother to his family.

His dedication and service will never be forgotten, and his absence has left a void that will not easily be filled. We are heartbroken and wrapping our arms around his family in love and support during this difficult time.
