Dunwoody, GA – January 29, 2026 - The City of Dunwoody, in partnership with the City of Peachtree Corners, seeks feedback on pedestrian and bicycle mobility improvements proposed for Phase II of the Winters Chapel Path. All are invited to attend a Public Information Open House on Thursday, February 12, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Winters Chapel United Methodist Church, 5105 Winters Chapel Road.
Phase II proposes a shared-use path along Winters Chapel Road from Peeler Road to Charmant Place, a distance of approximately 0.6 miles. The route begins and ends in Dunwoody and includes a 0.2‑mile segment within the City of Peachtree Corners. Phase II would connect the existing Winters Chapel Path Phase I to the future Peeler Path, strengthening a key north–south bicycle and pedestrian corridor.
The proposed project includes intersection improvements. At Peeler Road, the current southbound right turn from Winters Chapel would be reconfigured to slow down traffic and improve safety for pedestrians. At Sumac Drive, a new signalized intersection would allow for a protected pedestrian crossing to the path. Improved lighting and landscaping are also included in the plan.
“The goal of this project is to improve safety and expand mobility choices for the people who use Winters Chapel every day,” said Dunwoody Public Works Director Michael Smith. “There is no sidewalk on the west side of this busy corridor, so the proposed path on the west side along with intersection upgrades will make it safer and more comfortable to walk and bike in this area.”
This project was first identified in the 2015 Winters Chapel Road Area Study, incorporated into Dunwoody’s 2017 Comprehensive Transportation Plan Update, and reaffirmed in the 2023 Dunwoody Trail Master Plan. The proposed plan reflects years of planning and community interest in safer, more connected walking and biking options.
Dunwoody’s path project continues to advance with strong state and federal support, including $1.5 million awarded in 2023 for Phase II construction and an additional $750,000 in federal design funding secured in 2025. With the final field survey completed in August 2025 and the Concept Report approved by the Georgia Department of Transportation in October 2025, the next step will be developing the engineering design. Construction is projected to begin in 2029.
The Public Information Open House will be drop-in style with information boards and discussion but no formal presentation, allowing participants to explore at their own pace. Spanish translation support will be available.
