Dunwoody, GA – July 24, 2025 – The City of Dunwoody is releasing new revenue numbers that show its financial position is much stronger than anticipated. According to the City’s year-end audit of 2024 financials, $3.5 million was added to Dunwoody’s reserves. In addition, the FY2025 Mid-Year Budget Amendment will eliminate the planned use of fund balance for the current fiscal year.
“Through careful planning, budgeting, and spending, we’ve added to the reserve every year since I became Mayor. What’s more, we haven’t spent the reserves - even during the uncertainty of COVID and its aftermath,” said Mayor Lynn Deutsch.
For FY2025, new projected revenues show $1.26 million more than the adopted budget. This change is due to increases in the City’s tax digest, franchise fees, business and occupation taxes, and more. As a result, during Monday’s meeting, City Council will consider an amendment eliminating the planned use of $1.26 million from the fund balance in the current budget year.
The City is expected to close out FY2025 with enough fund balance to cover 10 months of expenditures. The Charter requires that Dunwoody maintain four months of fund balance. “I prefer six months to allow for the unexpected,” added Mayor Deutsch. Dunwoody is expected to have $11.8 million above the six-month mark for fund balance at the end of 2025.
“I’m so pleased with our current financial picture and appreciate the hard work it has taken to reach this point,” Mayor Deutsh explained. “This positive trend gives us the ability to be strategic and not just reactive as we plan for the City’s future.”
The City Council will discuss the fund balance during the FY2026 budget process this fall.
