direction dunwoody smaller for webDunwoody, GA – August 6, 2024 – The City of Dunwoody is kicking off “Direction Dunwoody,” the Comprehensive Plan update for 2025-45, with an online survey, pop-up tent, and public workshop. The Comprehensive Plan is the community’s vision for the future, guiding decisions about land use, transportation, economic development, housing, infrastructure, and more. The City of Dunwoody revises its Comprehensive Plan every five years with guidance from the Georgia Department of Community Affairs.

“The Comprehensive Plan is a roadmap that helps us look beyond the now to the next 20 years,” said Dunwoody Community Development Director Richard McLeod. “Public input is key to the process, and we look forward to finding new ways to get the community involved and engaged.”

A consulting team from TSW is serving as project manager for this process, working with City staff to gather input and provide analysis of opportunities and needs. The 2025-45 update coordinates the assessment of new demographic and economic data and trends, considers the current version of the Comprehensive Plan, and makes amendments based on community feedback.

The Dunwoody community is encouraged to participate early in the process in three ways:

  1. Fill out an online survey, which is now available on the City of Dunwoody website. It includes questions about transportation concerns, housing issues, and development.
  2. Visit the City’s pop-up tent in the Dunwoody Village during the Back-to-School Party at Bar(n) on Friday, Aug. 9. City staff and consultants will be available between 5 and 8 p.m.
  3. Attend the first public workshop on Tuesday, Sept. 10, at Park Place, 4505 Ashford Dunwoody Road, from 5 to 7 p.m., with presentations at 5 and 6 p.m. The workshop will be held in the retail space across from Café Intermezzo.

In addition to the Comprehensive Plan, the City of Dunwoody plans to update its Unified Development Ordinance (UDO). The two processes are complementary since the Comprehensive Plan sets the vision and policy, while the UDO implements both. Coordinating both will streamline the process and integrate engagement.

The UDO update aims to simplify and streamline the development process to make it easier for users to understand and for City staff to administer. The process will begin with assessing existing codes from both technical and policy perspectives, followed by removing conflicts to make the document internally consistent and easier to administer, thereby creating a modern and user-friendly document.

“This is an important part of our continued evolution as a young and growing city,” said Dunwoody City Manager Eric Linton. “We want to keep the community involved throughout the Comp Plan and UDO update to make sure we put policies in place that reflect the needs and desires of the community.”
