Dunwoody, GA – June 20, 2024 – The City of Dunwoody has earned the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting and the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA). The excellence designation for Dunwoody’s annual comprehensive financial report is considered the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting. The budget award reflects a commitment by the Dunwoody City Council and staff to meet the highest principles of government budgeting.
“I’m so proud of our finance team for continuing a tradition of excellence,” said Dunwoody City Manager Eric Linton. “Dunwoody has earned these recognitions every year since incorporation. We have an excellent team that delivers for our stakeholders.”
The City’s annual comprehensive financial report can be accessed using this link. This year’s certificate is for the fiscal year ending December 31, 2022. According to GFOA, the comprehensive annual financial report was judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes “demonstrating a constructive ‘spirit of full disclosure’ to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report.”
To receive the budget award, Dunwoody had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for an effective budget presentation. The 2024 report can be found using this link. According to GFOA, “award recipients have pioneered efforts to improve the quality of budgeting and provide an example for other governments throughout North America.”
“We hold ourselves to the highest standards, and these awards reflect our team’s dedication and hard work,” said Dunwoody Finance Director Richard Platto. “Our goal is to produce financial and budget reports that are accessible, understandable, and transparent.”
GFOA was founded in 1906 and represents public finance officials throughout the United States and Canada. The association's more than 22,500 members are federal, state/provincial, and local finance officials deeply involved in planning, financing, and implementing thousands of governmental operations in each of their jurisdictions. GFOA's mission is to advance excellence in public finance.
