City of Dunwoody Welcomes First Director of Economic Development  

 

Dunwoody – October 07, 2010 – The City of Dunwoody is pleased to announce the selection of Michael Starling as the first Director of Economic Development for Dunwoody. Mr. Starling joins Dunwoody with more than 15 years of experience and most recently served as the Senior Business Development Manager for DeKalb County’s Office of Economic Development.  Mr. Starling will assume his new role on October 18.  

 

“We are thrilled to have Michael Starling joining our team,” said Warren Hutmacher, Dunwoody City Manager. “He has an extensive skill set, is knowledgeable about Dunwoody and is the perfect choice to develop the City’s economic development program.”  

 

Within this new role, Mr. Starling will be responsible for economic development and coordination with external stakeholders to maximize the City’s efforts in helping to grow the local economy. Mr. Starling will work cohesively with our strategic partners to retain and grow our existing businesses and to attract institutions from the Atlanta metro area, the state, and across the country to Dunwoody.  

 

“I am very excited to be given the opportunity to work for the City of Dunwoody as they focus new resources and energy on growing their economic base,” Said Michael Starling.  “Dunwoody is part of the largest economic engine in the Southeast and is well positioned to lead the Atlanta region in economic growth as we emerge into a profitable economic climate.”  

 

Mr. Starling holds a Bachelor of Economics from the University of South Florida and is currently finishing his Masters of Urban Policy Studies from Georgia State University. He is also a member of the Georgia Economic Developers Association, Georgia BIO, Georgia-Indo American Chamber of Commerce, and a founding member of the Innovation Crescent Regional Partnership.
