Existing Dekalb County Permits

DeKalb County is no longer conducting inspections for any development projects within the new city limits of Dunwoody. Transferring your building permit is important to you because this will allow you to have your job inspected and avoid costly stop work orders or unnecessary delays.

General Contractors:


To transfer your current permit, you will need to provide the City of Dunwoody with the following:

  1. One copy of a stamped approved set of construction plans from DeKalb County.  (please note we do not have the ability to make copies of your plans in-house)
  2. One copy of the original building permit issued by DeKalb County.
  3. One copy of your business license and state contractor’s license.
  4. One copy of your on-site DeKalb County permit card.
  5. A completed City of Dunwoody Building Permit Application or Land Disturbance Permit application.
  6. A completed City of Dunwoody Contractor Affidavit form.

Sub-Contractors:


General Contractors may submit these items for their subcontractors.

Subcontractors will NOT be issued a permit until the general contractor has been issued a transfer building permit

To transfer your current permit, you will need to provide the City of Dunwoody with the following:

  2. One copy of the original electrical/plumbing/HVAC permit issued by DeKalb County.
  3. One copy of your business license and state contractor’s license.
  4. A completed City of Dunwoody Building Permit or Land Disturbance Permit application.
  5. A completed City of Dunwoody Contractor Affidavit form.


Single Trade Permits


If you are a single trade working on a project that NO BUILDING PERMIT WAS REQUIRED you will need to complete the following applicable trade permit form in lieu of a building permit application:

To transfer your current permit, you will need to provide the City of Dunwoody with the following:

  1. One copy of a stamped approved set of construction plans from DeKalb County.  (please note we do not have the ability to make copies of your plans in-house)
  2. One copy of the original electrical/plumbing/HVAC permit issued by DeKalb County.
  3. One copy of your business license and state contractor’s license.
  4. A completed City of Dunwoody Mechanical Permit Application, Plumbing Permit Application or Electrical Permit Application (DO NOT use these forms if you are working on a project that requires or has been issued a building permit! Follow the steps above for Sub-Contractors!)
  5. A completed City of Dunwoody Contractor Affidavit form.

Bring these forms to the City of Dunwoody Community Development office at: 41 Perimeter Center East Suite 250 Dunwoody, GA 30346. The City of Dunwoody will then issue a new permit number in our system.

Transfer Permit service is available on business days, 8:00 AM to 5:00. Please note there is NO CHARGE for this service.
