Maintenance
Public Works is responsible for maintaining roads, bridges, traffic signals, signs, drainage structures and right-of-way. Our staff members strive to provide a safe and well maintained road system and right-of-way and are available 24/7 to handle any road-related issue that arises.
Roadways
Dunwoody’s road infrastructure is comprised of 167.6 miles of road as measured by the center line or it is more accurately described as having 331.8 lane miles of surface. These roads consist of 40.4 lane miles of Major Arterial Roads, 25.9 lane miles of Collector Streets and 265.5 lane miles of Local Streets. The City also has 42.6 linear miles of sidewalks along our roads. The maintenance and upkeep of these roads and sidewalks are essential for the safety and quality of life of those who live, work or pass through the City of Dunwoody.
Some of the road maintenance activities performed are: pothole repair, sidewalk and curb reconstruction, debris removal, and pavement reconstruction.
Drainage Structures
Proper maintenance of drainage structures allows the flow of stormwater to state waterways by open channels (ditches, streams, swales), storm drain pipes, drainage boxes (catch basins, drop inlets), detention basins, retention ponds, wetlands, outfalls, and treatment structures.
Right-of-way Maintenance
Keeping the city's right-of-way safe, accessible and well maintained to create an attractive appearance involves tree/shrub trimming, grass cutting, and litter pick-up services.
Emergency Response
Public Works responds 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to emergencies that occur on City-owned roads and within right-of-way such as flooding, icing, traffic signal outages, and obstructions (downed trees, sink holes).
Emergency road service calls during Regular City Business Hours should be directed to the Public Works Department at 678.382.6850.
