Police Chief Billy Grogan was sworn in as the new 4th Vice President of the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police (GACP) on Tuesday, July 23, 2013.  The GACP is the organization that represents Chiefs of Police from across the State of Georgia and, as one of its duties, is responsible for the training and professional development of all Chiefs of Police.

Chief Billy Grogan previously served 28 years with the Marietta Police Department obtaining the rank of Deputy Chief before leaving that position to become the first Chief of Police for the Dunwoody Police Department in December, 2008.  Chief Grogan holds a Masters of Public Administration from Kennesaw State University and is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Seminar, Senior Management Institute for Police and the Georgia Command College.  Chief Grogan is Past President of the Cobb County Law Enforcement Association, the DeKalb County Chiefs Association and is Past Chairman of the Atlanta Metropol.

Chief Grogan is an active member of many professional associations such as the International Association of Chiefs of Police and the Police Executive Research Forum.  He believes strongly in serving the Dunwoody community as well as his law enforcement profession and as an example of showing his commitment to both of those devotions, he served for over five years as the Director for Georgia’s division of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics. Chief Grogan has been widely published and is considered an expert in law enforcement’s use of social media.

Chief Billy Grogan has been quoted about his recent accomplishment of being installed as the GACP 4th VP by saying, “I look forward to serving on the board of the GACP as well as being an advocate for the needs of Police Chiefs throughout the state.  As law enforcement leaders, it is imperative that we all work together to combat crime and disorder in our communities.  I appreciate the opportunity to serve the members of this association.”

Chief Grogan has been married to his wife Wanda for almost 33 years and they have two adult children, Stephen and Hannah, and one grandson, Owen.
