Dunwoody Police Officers are FREEZIN’ FOR A REASON

The Dunwoody Police Department is proud to announce the department’s participation in the upcoming 2012 Polar Plunge benefitting Special Olympics Georgia. We will be participating in this event for the 3rd year in a row. This is a great opportunity to raise funds and awareness for the 23,000 athletes of Special Olympics Georgia. A number of officers have each pledged to raise $50 for the opportunity to plunge at Lake Lanier’s new LanierWorld. Of course they are not limited to just $50! In 2011, the Dunwoody Police Department team raised over $12,000! With your help, we can do even better this year!

Chief Grogan is the past State Director for the Law Enforcement Torch Run program which raises funds and awareness for Special Olympics Georgia. Law Enforcement Officers from across the state raise funds throughout the year with various fundraising activities. Statewide last year, police officers and agencies across the state raised almost $700,000. Their goal is to reach $1,000,000 within the next couple of years.

The third annual 2012 Polar Plunge benefiting Special Olympics Georgia will be held at:

Lake Lanier’s new LanierWorld at Sunset Cove on February 18, 2012

Registration & Activities begin 11:00am, PLUNGE TIME 2:00pm!

Anyone who raises at least $50 can plunge into Lake Lanier and all proceeds go to Special Olympics Georgia. There are many great incentives if you raise even more. This is where we need your help!

The department has created a Dunwoody Police Department team on the fundraising page for Special Olympics and all team plungers have joined the team with their personal fundraising page. Our goal is for the Dunwoody Police Department team to lead all police departments in total funds raised. Thanks to your support, we were recognized as the largest law enforcement fundraising team for the polar plunge the first two years. Please CLICK HERE if you would like to make a donation to our team. All donations are tax deductible.

If you would like to join our team and plunge with us, please do so! (Don’t worry, you can plunge with your toe or go all the way in!) Another great way to help would be to form your own team. This could be done with a business, association, youth group, club, school, college, family or just about any other type of group.

You can also pass this information on to your family and friends who can join your team as well.

Visit the 2012 Polar Plunge website at: www.polarplungega.com for complete details on the event as well as a link to the "Plunger Tool Kit" which explains what the event is about and how to start your own team as well as the registration form. Please consider passing this information on to others you know who might be willing to help.

If you sign up to plunge on our team, select "Dunwoody Police Department 2012" team from the drop down list. If you start your own team, type in: "Dunwoody Police Department" as the referring group.

You can also follow the 2012 Polar Plunge benefiting Special Olympics Georgia on the Facebook Fan Page at www.facebook.com/polarplungega and Twitter www.twitter.com/polarplungega.

We welcome the opportunity to come talk about the event with any group who might be interested in starting their own team. This is a great opportunity to do a service project which will certainly benefit a group of individuals in need.

The 2012 Polar Plunge benefiting Special Olympics Georgia is looking for additional sponsors, including a Title Sponsor. Sponsorship information is on the Polar Plunge website as well.

If you have any questions, please contact Sergeant Mike Carlson at mike.carlson@dunwoodyga.gov or at 678-382-6907.
