Alcohol Licenses
An Alcohol Beverage License is required for any establishment selling Alcoholic Beverages for consumption on or off premises within the city limits of Dunwoody. In order to sell, offer for sale, or otherwise dispense any alcohol beverages within the City, the establishment must first obtain a license from the City of Dunwoody. Please submit the completed Alcoholic Beverage License Application and all required supplemental materials by mail or in person (detailed in the application document) to the Finance Department located at 41 Perimeter Center East Ste 250, Dunwoody, GA 30346. Alcohol Pouring Permit
The Finance and Administration department will issue all alcohol pouring permits for the City of Dunwoody at a total cost of $110.00. The cost break down is as follows: $50.00 for the background check and $60.00 for the pouring permit for a total of $110.00. A Pouring Permit is required for any employee holding a managerial position and any employees of an alcohol beverage caterer who engage in the handling, selling or serving of alcohol beverages. This excludes employees whose duties are limited solely to those of bus-boy, cook, and dishwasher.

Upon receipt of your application, a background check will be conducted by the Dunwoody Police Department which may take 3-5 business days. Once this is completed and in compliance with the Dunwoody Chapter 04 - Alcohol Beverages ordinance, you will be notified to return to City Hall and pick up your i.d. card. Background Checks are only preformed on Tuesdays and Thursdays between the hours of 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m.-3:00 p.m. If an application is submitted during times other than those listed you will be instructed to return for the background check during the aforementioned times. NOTE: No Alcohol Pouring Permits will be issued unless the business has a valid Alcohol Business License.
Patio Sales: If you anticipate the serving and selling of alcohol in an outdoor area you will need to submit an application for a Patio PermitThe permit fee is $50 and can be submitted to the City of Dunwoody permit department at 41 Perimeter Center East, Suite 250, Dunwoody, GA. 30346.
One Day Sunday Sales License: If you are a restaurant that currently holds a valid six (6) day alcohol license with the City of Dunwoody and you would like to apply for a One Day Sunday Sales License, you will need to submit an application for an application for One Day Sunday Sales. The license fee is $200 and can be submitted to the City of Dunwoody permit department at 41 Perimeter Center East, Suite 250, Dunwoody, GA. 30346.
Wine Tasting Permit: If you currently hold a valid City of Dunwoody Alcohol Privilege License that enables you to sell wine and would like to host a wine tasting event, you will need to submit an application for a Wine Tasting Permit . The administrative fee is $100 and you have the option of an annual permit for $300 or $50 per day of the wine tasting event. Beer Tasting Permit: If you currently hold a valid City of Dunwoody Alcohol Privilege License that enables you to sell beer and would like to host a beer tasting event, you will need to submit an application for a Beer Tasting Permit . The administrative fee is $100 and you have the option of an annual permit for $300 or $50 per day of the beer tasting event. Resident Catered Event Permit: If you are a resident/non-resident caterer who possesses a valid license from the City of Dunwoody to sell or dispense beer, wine, or liquor at a fixed location within the City, you will need to submit an application for a Resident Catered Event Permit for an off-premise event. The administrative fee is $100 for beer and/or wine, or $200 for liquor with and $50 per day for the resident/non-resident catered event permit. A resident/non-resident caterer may only sell or dispense what is authorized by their valid City of Dunwoody Alcohol Privilege License. Special Event Permit with Alcohol: A special event is any organized for profit or not for profit activity having as its purpose entertainment, recreation, and/or education which takes place on public property or takes place on private property but requires special public services such as the use of parks, public streets, rights-of-ways, or sidewalks as well as events that take place in local business establishments that are outside of the “normal” course of business. Special events may include, but are not limited to, activities such as run/walk events, cycling events, street festivals, parades, triathlon/biathlon, grand openings, concerts, assemblies, block parties and certain outdoor promotional events. Permits are also required for all special events that involve the consumption of alcohol.
Nonprofit Event Permit with Alcohol: A nonprofit event is any organized activity having as its
purpose entertainment, recreation, and/or education which takes place on private property such as non-profit fundraising events. Permits are also required for all special events that involve the consumption of alcohol.
Individuals, organizations, or groups wishing to hold events on public property, or on private property but with an impact on public property, such as roads and City parks, must obtain a Special Event Permit from the City of Dunwoody, as required by Chapter 20, Assemblages in Public Places.
Furthermore, if alcohol is to be served or sold at the event, the event producer or business owner must also obtain an Alcohol Permit through the Finance Department and hire private security officers to prevent alcohol from being removed from the premises. The City’s alcoholic beverage requirements are governed in accordance with Dunwoody Ordinance, Chapter 4, Alcohol Beverages.
